Q1: Does this item have coated lenses? Is this a good binocular for the price or is there a similar product that might be better, keeping in mind I would like something that zooms to over 15x? This would mostly be used for bird/nature watching. This weighs 2.6 lbs. - is that considered to be on the heavy side? I am not going to sit there and hold a pair of binoculars for a 1/2 hour, but is this weight generally comfortable to hold for a few minutes?
A: The Nikon Action Zoom binocular is a best seller. The lenses are multi-coated. The binocular is not meant to be compact by any means. The weight of 2.6 pounds is the price you pay for a large objective lens binocular with full Zoom features. I would say that the weight is not unbearable. I would suggest checking out some of our binocular suspenders if you really want a comfortable fit for long hikes or trips in the field.
Q2: I was looking at a binocular with astronomy and birdwatching capabilities with night vision and zoom capability. Is there any such binocular with 30X zoom, 12X magnification or more and 50mm lens?
A: I am sorry but no, there is not a binocular with all those different functions. A Standard 10x50 however would be able to do both birdwatching and astronomy. A zoom could do both as well although zoom binoculars do not have a very good light gathering capability so I wouldn't recommend them for astronomy. As for night vision the binocular would not have enough magnification capabilities for any of the uses but using at night, although not for astronomy.
Q3: Do these binoculars come with a case & strap? Thanks.
A: Yes these come with a Soft Case, Neck Strap, Tripod Adapter, Objective lens caps, and eyepiece caps.
Q4: Could you inform me about the accessories available for the Nikon Zoom XL. As I live in India, what and where are the after sales service facilities offered by Nikon in India ?
A: To find after-market sales or service in India, you will want to go to the where to buy section on Nikon's website. I am unsure what accessories you are looking for exactly. The Nikon Binoculars already include the cases, straps and lens covers. This one also includes a tripod adapter.
Q5: I was looking for info on the eye relief and the exit pupil. You are the only site providing this info. So, thank you very much for the professional approach. At the same time I would like to get more info. Why do different manufacturers make different diameter eyepiece lenses (the circle where you actually look). What is the diameter of the eyepiece lens in Nikon 10-22X50 Action Zoom XL?
A: The main reason that manufacturers make different size eyepieces is mainly dependent on the overall size of the binocular that they are trying to achieve. The overall diameter is approximately 1".
